series!
This series provides an opportunity for you to learn from some of the most knowledgeable, successful and inspiring Russian Kin’s Domain Settlement founders, leaders and residents.
We’ll be joined by Maria Makshieva and Yulia Lisunova, residents of the 23 year old Siberian “Imbiren” Kin’s Domain Settlement.
Speakers spend around ~1.5 hours on their presentation, and the remaining time will be dedicated to Q&A with the audience!
This is a priceless opportunity to connect with experienced Settlement residents from Russia — don’t miss it!

FIRST SPEAKER
Maria Makshieva
Longtime Imbiren Resident and Filmmaker
I’m Maria Makshieva. I practically grew up in the settlement, first traveling there alone at age 13—140 kilometers from home—driven by a powerful dream.
I will describe how the settlement is perceived in childhood, the remarkable events that happened to me then, and my kind neighbors and our community.
I will also screen a film I made about us.
In 2022 I traveled from Siberia to Krasnodar Krai, filming more than ten settlements and meeting many remarkable people.
I will show films about children in Kin’s Domains and the specific features of settlements in different regions of Russia.
Note from Gabriel: Most of the photos below are from Maria’s films.

Yulia Lisunova
Longtime Resident of Imbiren
My name is Yulia Lisunova, 42. I am married and have three daughters: Anastasia (21, lives separately), Alyona (11), and Olesya (2). My husband Vladimir, from Zabaykalsky Krai, grew up in a village on the edge of the taiga and can make virtually anything by hand. I hold a degree in economics and worked in a bank before moving to a settlement.
In the settlement I became interested in herbal medicine, have been vegetarian for nine years (no meat or fish), do not drink alcohol, and use herbs instead of pharmaceuticals when needed. I practice yoga, learned to bake yeast-free bread, and sewed my own dress.
I have known Megre’s books for about ten years and have visited or attended festivals in more than ten settlements. I lived 1.5 years in the Mezhdurechye settlement (Oryol Oblast) in a communal house, then moved to the Vedrussia settlement (Krasnodar Krai). There we bought a homestead; my husband planted over 300 trees on our hectare, and we gave birth to our daughter at home, just the two of us. We left when nearby hostilities made it unsafe.
We have now returned to my native Kirov Oblast, currently live in an apartment, but are saving to move onto land and have already chosen a settlement.

Imbiren was founded in 2002 by a group of motivated Omsk residents inspired by Vladimir Megre’s Ringing Cedars of Russia series.
