Having been born into WII wartime UK, some of my earliest memories are of us always living in homes with large back yards devoted to growing as much of our own food needs as practical which included chickens and rabbits. This was an amazing accomplishment at that time given that my father was on wartime active duty as a naval lieutenant but fortunately shore based and he was also active in the local Home Guard; very proud of my father for his commitment to country and family survival and Freedom.
We also had a flourishing 240 acre farm in the family with dairy cows, pigs, sheep and chickens so rationing was met with an abundance of good wholesome self-produced food: This is the basis and background of experience motivating my keen interest in homesteading - getting to be as self-sufficient as possible off-the-grid and out of any dependence on the Deep State slave system.
I'm modeling my plans for development of my homestead upon what Curtis Stone has been/is doing in BC except that I'm looking for between 40 and 240 acres of rural (ie: not zoned as "farming") growable land preferably somewhere in California yet at least 30 miles away from any big metropolitan area and using the criteria laid out by Curtis in his recent course detailing how to find a viable homestead property. I'm developing this as a foundation where I can invite subscription members to actually come stay, live on the land so-to-speak, and thus get the feel for what it takes to create a viable self-sufficient lifestyle because it's one thing to dream and quite another to actually create and implement such a radically different style of living wherein one has to be responsible for literally every aspect of enjoying a safe, joyful, satisfying and rewarding and healthy life..
I'm also very much drawn to the ideas outlined in Vladimir Magret's Anastasia stories in the book series translated from the original Russian into English and entitled "The Ringing Cedars" about creating Kin's Domains style of homestead and I'm planning for my homestead/farmstead to become a support hub for those attempting to create their own version of a Ringing Cedars Kin's Domain within a commuting radius of my homestead property.
