  • Evening Routine (Book 1: Advice from Anastasia) – Which plant?

Posted by Unknown Member on February 22, 2025 at 11:12 pm

In book 1, Anastasia recommends we wash/soak our feet in water and a few drops of juice of nettles or saltbush/orache (depending on the translation). I am curious which plant this actually refers to, as saltbush and orache are both names for any number of plants among the 250 species of Atriplex. I checked the Russian version, which has the name “Лебеда” given, but this also (as per Wikipedia) seems to give the genus rather than species level.
It seems there is a garden variety (Atriplex hortensis). But, I imagine you need a species growing in salt environments for it to have the desired effect of opening the pores…
Does anyone know which plant she might have been referring to?

One possible candidate is Atriplex halimus, also known as Mediterranean saltbush. This species is known for its ability to thrive in saline conditions and has been used traditionally for its medicinal properties. Its leaves contain compounds that can help cleanse and open pores, making it a suitable choice for the foot-soaking routine described in the book.

    I was wondering the same!

I just happen to live in a region where nettles absolutely thrive, and so I was planning on creating a patch specifically for them (far away from my actual garden so they don’t choke everything out).

I was also wondering where to find seeds to plant the celandine she refers to for aiding the cleansing of thoughts…

I was wondering about the Celandine plant actually. It is a very strong plant with some strong alkaloids. Great it can purify our thoughts, but we wouldn’t want to take too much of it either, as it might be toxic. I tried eating a leaf of it a few times – it is really really bitter!
The good news is that it is hard to mistake (once you’ve identified it once), given the yellow sap…

From what I understood I think the use of the plant will be external, for cleansing the feet pores 🙂 It will help the energetic exchange also.. do you say it might be toxic on the skin or just if ingested?

We’re talking about different plants. It’s the Greater Celandine that you are instructed to eat 3 little leaves (leaflets?) of which I am saying is somewhat toxic, based on the data I found.
That is separate to the original question of this thread:
Nettle and saltbush are recommended in book one for opening the pores of the feet, used externally.
